Every street should be a Living Street, a public space for people on foot, where everyone feels safe, spends time, and meets other people, other children.
LIVING STREETS is a national charity which campaigns for neighbourhoods just like that. Their Manifesto for Streets reads like a glorious vision of what our neighbourhoods could be like: cars on a mandatory 20 mph, local partnerships with Councils to improve the area, roads designed not only to go from A to B but also to D and F and M and R and X and Z as well, with wheelchairs, cycles, pushchairs and pets. Visit their website to conduct a livability audit on your street.
