The Stockport Greenspace Forum is a meeting place for community groups involved in caring for the local environment. These include the Friends of Woodbank and Vernon Parks (hard at work on the left), the Friends of Woodlands Park and Stockport Cemetary. At present, St. Thomas Rec is the only 'friendless' park in Manor Ward.
The Greenspace Forum is a voluntary body established in 2000 with the aim of supporting local groups. It works in partnership with the Parks & Recreation section of Stockport Council. If you need contacts or information you can e-mail Parks & Recreation on parks@stockport.gov.uk or telephone them on Why not pay the Forum a visit now by clicking on www.stockportgreenspace.org.uk?
Reddish Vale Country Park covers 161 hectares, making it the biggest c
Back in 1988 a large section of what is now the vale was ear-marked for development. Luckily one of the biggest local popular demonstrations against government policy promptly followed in response. The result was that the Vale was spared and the Tame Valley Defence Group was formed to act as a watchdog organisation.
The Tame Valley Defence Group has become closely involved with Stockport Council and they have regular meetings where they discuss topics such as the motorbike menace or the regular feeding and caring for wildlife. The group raised money recently for a rescue boat to catch injured and sick birds, and to carry out important habitat renewal work on the ponds. Don’t miss out on a visit to their website to see their gorgeous wildlife snaps.
